UFC Fight Night 276

Arnold Allen vs Melquizael Costa

Both fighters operate from a southpaw stance, which creates a relatively rare and technically intriguing matchup. Arnold Allen is known for fighting at a very high pace and constantly pushing intense exchanges, but that style often makes him overly open defensively. During most of his fights, he tends to lose composure for short stretches, rushes forward recklessly, and absorbs unnecessary damage. Over the course of a five-round fight, those moments become even more dangerous.

Allen is an extremely physical fighter with fast and dangerous hands, but his kicking game remains fairly limited, and his defensive reactions are average at best. Stylistically, this looks like a very uncomfortable matchup for him.

Melquizael Costa is a far more precise striker who moves exceptionally well on the outside. He has excellent timing and a very strong kicking game. Since both fighters are southpaws, Costa should have consistent opportunities to attack Allen’s lead leg, which could become one of the key factors in the fight. Repeated damage to that front leg would gradually slow Allen down and reduce the effectiveness of his pressure-heavy style.

Costa is especially dangerous with the way he layers attacks together. He throws sharp right-left combinations and frequently finishes them with spinning kicks or elbows. He also uses push kicks and stomping kicks to the knee extremely well, which could further disrupt Allen’s forward movement and timing.

The early rounds will likely be competitive and physically intense, but as the fight progresses, Costa’s technical striking and kicking arsenal could slowly begin to break Allen down. Overall, we see strong value on Costa as an underdog and expect him to have a very real chance of winning this fight through decision or late-round control.

Prediction: Melquizael Costa to win
Odds: 2.50
