UFC White House Freedom 250 Predictions & Best Picks

Ilia Topuria vs Justin Gaethje

This feels like a completely unnecessary matchup. Justin Gaethje is a physically worn-out fighter at this stage, while Ilia Topuria is at his absolute peak in every area. Topuria is a class-level boxer in MMA, he has class-level grappling, and his wrestling is also above average.

On paper, Gaethje’s main weapons would be his leg kicks and uppercuts. Against Topuria, however, those tools are unlikely to work. If Gaethje tried to build his game around heavy leg-kick volume, Topuria would punch into every kick, punish the openings immediately, and over a five-round fight that would drain Gaethje physically very quickly. In that type of fight, Gaethje would basically suffer a cardio KO, which is why a leg-kick-heavy strategy is not a realistic main option against Topuria.

The current version of Gaethje simply does not have a weapon that he can consistently and effectively execute against Topuria. A prime, physically fresh version of Gaethje would definitely have a real chance in this matchup, but unfortunately, time cannot be beaten. Alongside the eye test, there is also a very telling statistic: Justin Gaethje absorbs 7.05 significant strikes per minute, while Topuria absorbs only 3.83. That is a massive difference, especially against a fighter who punishes mistakes with this level of accuracy and power.

Prediction: Ilia Topuria to win, and the fight does not go the distance.

Alex Pereira vs Ciryl Gane

This will definitely be a historic event. Alex Pereira could become the first UFC fighter to win championships in three different weight classes, while Ciryl Gane could become the first French UFC champion.

Pereira did not make this jump right now by accident. You can see it in his physique: he is not a natural heavyweight, and he looks much fuller than he should. That is not a positive point, but more of a warning sign. Technically and stylistically, many things may favor him, but physically this will be a completely different world. Moving up to this kind of weight class is not only about looking bigger or stronger; the real question is how he will handle true heavyweight power, punches, kicks, and body-to-body contact.

However, stylistically, Gane could be almost a perfect opponent for Pereira. After his kicks, Gane often gets stuck on his rear leg. Since he almost always starts moving backward with his lead leg, this is a bad habit that he is unlikely to change at this point in his career. Against Pereira, that can be especially dangerous because Pereira reads those rhythms extremely well and punishes opponents very quickly when they remain in a bad position.

Another important factor is that Gane mostly throws straight punches. That also fits Pereira very well, because he is excellent at moving his head off the center line against straight attacks. Because of that, he can make even better use of his rising hooks from underneath, counters, and timing changes. One of Pereira’s biggest strengths is exactly this: he reads linear attacks extremely well, moves off the line, and immediately fires back from those positions.

There is one more very important detail: Gane’s ankle position. He often keeps it half-turned outward, which can work against certain inside leg kicks, but against Pereira this could become almost self-destructive. Trying to check Pereira’s kicks with that type of ankle position is extremely risky, because over time it can lead to serious damage and loss of movement.

However, even if the style favors Pereira, there is one factor that should never be underestimated: physical size. Gane is 195 cm tall and around 120 kg as a natural heavyweight. We have no idea how Pereira will handle his punches, kicks, and physical strength. That is exactly why this fight is so interesting. Stylistically, the matchup may be perfect for Pereira, but for the first time in his UFC career, he may be at a real size disadvantage.

Despite that, our pick is Pereira to win. He is the more active fighter, he is in a better rhythm, and the matchup is genuinely very favorable for him. At the same time, Pereira’s heavyweight physique is not a positive argument for us, but a risk factor, so we are choosing the technical matchup despite the uncertainty around size.

Prediction: Alex Pereira to win.
