  3. Semenyo over 0.5 shots on target

Premier League – Round 36
Venue: Etihad Stadium
Referee: Michael Salisbury

On paper this looks like a standard Manchester City domination game, but Brentford’s profile actually creates a difficult tactical matchup for Guardiola’s side. City will control possession and spend long periods inside Brentford’s half, but Brentford are one of the league’s best transition-based and direct attacking teams, which makes them dangerous even with limited possession.

City still produce elite attacking metrics: 63.9 xG, 2.0 goals per match, 1217 touches in the opposition box, and 210 corners. Their 60.7% possession guarantees territorial dominance at the Etihad. However, defensively they are not quite as untouchable as in previous seasons. Their 39.2 xG conceded is solid, but not overwhelming, and their high defensive line often leaves exploitable space behind.

That is exactly where Brentford become dangerous. Thomas Frank’s side thrive in direct football and transition moments. Their 56.7 xG and 108 big chances created show they are far more aggressive offensively than a typical mid-table side. Most importantly for this matchup, they average 4.0 shots on target per game, which strongly supports the Brentford over 2.5 SOT pick.

The BTTS & Over 2.5 selection is also strongly supported by the game dynamics. City at home usually create enough attacking volume for multiple goals, but Brentford’s transition threat makes a clean sheet difficult to trust. Brentford can create danger with very little possession, especially through fast vertical attacks and set pieces.

One key tactical factor is Brentford’s long-ball efficiency. They rank first in accurate long balls (23.7 per match), while City’s high defensive structure can occasionally struggle against direct attacks into open space. That significantly increases Brentford’s probability of reaching at least three shots on target.

The Semenyo pick also fits the expected game flow. One shot on target is a low line for a player likely to be one of Brentford’s primary transition outlets. Since City dominate possession, Brentford should find a few open-field attacking moments — ideal situations for Semenyo to generate at least one dangerous effort.
